Working to Prevent Injuries and Save Lives in Road Construction

On the Front Lines for Workplace Safety

Every day, hundreds of American workers are injured or killed on the job, and millions more are at risk of death or injury in the workplace. Many workplace injuries can be avoided through better personal protection (PPE), but usage of PPE remains dangerously low.

The International Safety Equipment Association represents companies that make safety equipment for use in hazardous work environments. ISEA and its members offer a wealth of information and expertise on PPE for the workplace.

Safety equipment usage by workers not only reduces injuries and deaths, but offers clear bottom-line benefits to employers. Data from a variety of sources indicates that the use of protective gear for eyes, faces, falls, hands, heads and respiration can save hundreds of millions each year in lost-time injuries. For example, road construction companies pay out $17 million more for eye and face injuries yearly than it would cost to protect hazard-exposed workers with safety glasses.

Whether you are responsible for specifying or buying safety equipment, for training employees, developing policy, writing a speech or just looking to find out more about workplace safety, ISEA offers the information and contacts you need.

Results from a ISEA survey of safety leaders indicate that personal protective equipment (PPE) use in the heavy construction industry is on this rise, but that hundreds of thousands of workers in dangerous jobs are still unprotected when they need to be.  Read more about it here.
